It
was her love for small animals that first introduced
Jill Janson to the magic of Photography.
During a trip to the the Towers department store in
Mississauga at the age of five, Jill broke loose from her mother's grip to
run to the pet department. The Towers photography department was promoting
the latest Polaroid Land camera at the time and was where the staff managed
to stop Jill long enough to pose for this photograph before sending her on
her way to visit the rabbits and guinea pigs.
Jill has carried this photograph and the memory of that
moment in time, throughout her life. They were the inspiration that guided
her to study photography at Sheridan Institute and embark her on a career in
photojournalism and portrait photography.
As
an award winning photojournalist, Jill has worked for weekly newspapers
as well as some of the largest daily newspapers in Canada. It was that
experience that allowed her to hone her skill as a “people”
photographer, often photographing her subjects in environments they were
familiar with or felt at ease in.
Jill attributes her success as a portrait photographer to
her ability to shoot from the heart. Whether it's a child resting on a bale
of straw or an urban cyclist resting against a brick wall in an alley, her
portraits convey an aspect of her subjects personality that connects them to
their environment as they savor that stopped moment in time.
Jill lives in Wellington County where she raised two
beautiful children.
